Chapter 14: The Summer of 2k5 !

Summer projects are the important part of any management student’s life. We MBA’s always be very careful to get the best topics and best firms in the summers, this is our first experience our entry in the corporate world. Amol’s and Nishant’s summer project firm was also a very well- known firm. The college was also happy that this company had given them the summer project. It was recognition for the college also.

The first day amol had entered in the company, he was completely zapped by seeing the office. On the 8th Floor, there was a big Room with glass door which was having a big conference Table a big chair. On the table there was a big globe and a High Tech PC resting with a few files at the corner. There was a big tower miniature and a colourfull penstand with watch. On the Back side wall there was a smilling photo of the head of the organisation receiving some trophy, a big LCD and Many trophies with a nice view of Mumbai from the glass window . Amol was staring at this cabin for almost 5 minutes as if this room will be made one day for him.. Nishant broke his dream saying “abbe !! chal na, late ho raha hai !!”

The next cabin was of the HR they were told to report. 

“May I come in mam!” Amol asked knocking the door… 

Rucha Maheshwari the HR Mangaer, a smart corporate lady, from the firm welcome them both warmly.. “Yes yes !! please come !! Sit sit, What will you have ?”

 “No thanks mam, we just had tea down !” nishant replied

Rucha said “Well in that case a Very Good morning to both you guys! Welcome to Aasthanet Ltd.’s global corporate office. You must be aware about small firm” she smiled with a tont in the last line.. Both Nishant and Amol were happy and were conducting themselves very professionally.

“Good morning mam! Indeed it’s a very beautifully designed office” Amol was happy in his new world. “.. and about saying as a small firm , I guess mam it was really humble to say that inspite of being the number one marketing firm”

“Well, thanks for the compliments, we are also glad to get two of you with us, coming back to the point, I have gone through your CV’s and requirements. Based on our needs, I have received the topics to be allotted to you ! Mister Nishat you will have to work on the “Brand Recognition and positioning comparison of Top five brands by our firm” and Mister Amol, you would have “The New initiatives and techniques of positioning our Top five brands”

They both noted down carefully..

“You will have a two months period with you, here you will have to interact with each desk of our company.. establish yourself and also work on the topic.. Here, like earlier summer trainees you can divide your time into four phases. “ 

“at the end of the project , I.e the third last day you will have to make a presentation to our Top management, Second last day you will receive the marks and last day certificates.. So all the best boys,,, get going .. two months is a very short period and it flies.. Take care and do the best you can..”

 “ I know my company staff are very cooperative they would love to help you and get help from you !! only a small point is that you will have to work on your individual laptops as many times you will be moving to desks, m sure that you both must be having some high Tech Laptops” She stood up, shook hands with both of them and guided them to meet the person they would be reporting to for two months..

Nishant and amol were on the same floor, they decided to get to the work and meet in the lunch break!

The day went in introductions and knowing people.. While slogging for the whole day and returning home both were tired and sitting next to each other in bus, listening to shaan’s alltime college hit with one music cord shared by both, they were not uttering even a single word “ Aankhome sapne liye…
Gharse hum chal to diye…
Jaane ye raahe ab le jayengi kaha… mitti ki khushboo aaye …
palko pe aasu laaye ..
yado me reh jayega khabo ka jaha,,,,
manjil nayi hai anjana hai raasta.. chalna akele hai yaha”

“Tanahaaa dil .. Tanahaa Safar … Dhoondhe Tujhe fir kyon najar !!” both sang at the same time… looked at each other and smiled with contentness….

It was the best day for both of the guys!!

Amol was looking outside the window... He was constantly staring outside the window and he was just feeling blank… he was feeling the happiness about the project but as it was the first day of the project he was not able to sleep in bus as he used to do most of the times.. There was something which was keeping him awake… he was not understanding what he was going through.. suddenly the cell beeped and he got his smile back, it was a joke forwarded by Anagha with a good night at the end !! Amol was now Happy !! He was aware that he had missed that special friend !
